Which came first, the Geordie or the lamp?

This is a Geordie lamp, used by Geordie miners in 1815. Some say the Geordies were named after the lamp, and others say Geordies were already Geordies before George “Geordie” Stephenson manufactured it.

If anywhere’s got the answer it’ll be the Lit & Phil Library in Newcastle, where the lamp can be found. Have a look at www.litandphil.org.uk to see what else you can find there.
