Our friends at Northern Print have a line-up of outdoor printmaking activities planned for the Bridges Festival in Newcastle next month. The festival will take place in venues on either side of the Tyne, from the Copthorne Hotel to the Victoria Tunnel on the Newcastle side, and The Sage and The Baltic on the Gateshead side.
Northern Print will host two events outside The Sage – The Stupendous Steamroller (a large scale lino print using a steamroller, which featured at the International Print Biennale last year) and The Print Run (where people can help create a giant piece of print using special sprinting/printing shoes dipped in ink before walking, running, dancing or even hopping around the printing surface).
There will also be the chance to print your own Pottscard – a collaborative activity between Northern Print and Potts Print (UK) – with letterpress images inspired by the river.
Live Theatre will be getting involved too, with a series of new mini-plays from their Mega Bites shows as well as some up and coming comedians.
There will be a firework display on the Tyne Bridge at 9.30pm on Saturday night, and Port of Tyne are running a photography and film competition throughout the festival, where people are challenged to ‘capture the North East on camera’.
