Right, try and stay with me here, because I’ve only just discovered what this ‘Harlem Shake‘ phenomenon is all about. According to Wikipedia, it is… ‘an Internet meme in the form of a video of various groups of people performing a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song Harlem Shake’. And, a meme (pronounced meem) is defined as ‘a concept that spreads from person to person via the Internet’. All those pictures of cats in sandwiches that were going around Facebook a while ago, they’re memes, apparently.
So, the reason I’m telling you this is because our pals at St Oswalds have done their very own Harlem Shake video. Their version features characters from popular musicals, from Phantom of the Opera to Chicago to The Wizard of Oz.
“Why have they done this?” you may well ask. The answer is, it’s to promote their upcoming fundraising event – the annual Midnight Walk. The 10km walk begins at Newcastle Civic Centre on Saturday 6th July at midnight (Saturday night / Sunday morning), and this year the theme is musicals! I hope this all makes sense now.
To get involved in the event visit the St Oswalds website and sign up, and meanwhile, here’s the video…
Hope you enjoy it!
