Anyone wanting a pre-Christmas laugh with workmates or friends is invited to the “Christmas Laffalang”, which will be held at The Stand comedy club in High Bridge, Newcastle, on Tuesday 10th December. The show will comprise Christmas sketches written by Ed Waugh and stand-up comedy from the excellent Gavin Webster (worth the entry fee alone).
There will be two performances, at 5.45pm and 8.30pm, with all profits going to St Oswald’s Hospice.
Les Robson from St Oswald’s says: “A couple of years ago Ed helped me organise a fundraising music gig at The Cluny in Newcastle for St Oswald’s, and we got around 300 people along. It was a fantastic night. I was looking to do another event and after I saw Ed’s wonderfully funny Geordie Nativity for the Teenage Cancer Trust at Newcastle Cathedral last December, the idea of a Christmas sketch show came about.”
Performers include the original Dirty Dusting ladies (Helen Russell, Gwen Doran and Jean Southern), and Lindisfarne stars Ray Laidlaw and Billy Mitchell will hang up their instruments for the evening to do some acting. Pantomime legend Bob Stott will don the Widow Twanky costume to perform in three separate specially written sketches, and BBC TV anchorman Jeff Brown will lend his services too. Many more top local actors to be confirmed. Gareth Hunter from Ion Productions has kindly agreed to produce the show.
The skits include The Geordie Nativity, The Boxing Day Dip, Christmas Crisis: The Musical, Alan Pardew Bingo, and that wonderful North East institution known as Fenwick’s Window.
Tickets cost £10 and are on sale from Les Robson (0780 549 6518) or from The Stand (0844 693 3336).
